Sanjay Yadav was born on Wednesday, 10 May 1995 (age 25 years; as of 2020), in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. His full name is Ramsingh Sanjay Yadav. His zodiac sign is Taurus. In 2000, when Sanjay was 5 years old, his family migrated to Hosur, an industrial city in Tamil Nadu, in search of better work opportunities. He studied at Maharishi Vidya Mandir school till 2010 and then attended R V Govt Boys High Sec School, Hosur for the latter part of his schooling. He used to play tennis ball cricket in his school and also used to get invitations to play in various cricket tournaments around Chennai. Sanjay’s father was a daily-wage worker and the only person responsible to bring food on the table for his family. Owing to the poor financial situation of his family, Sanjay did not want to take up cricket professionally. However, his cricket coach, Premnath, noticed the special talent in him and asked him to join his Future India Cricket Academy in Hosur. The coach was aware of Sanjay’s financial situation, so he allowed Sanjay to practice in his academy without charging any fees from him. His cricketing talent earned him a seat in Chennai’s Loyola College, where he pursued BSc (Statistics) from 2015 to 2018. Later, his all-round performances in various domestic tournaments, including the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), gave him great exposure and earned him his maiden IPL contract with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2017.

Subsequently, he was named in the Tamil Nadu’s T20 squad for the Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament 2017, and on 3 February 2017, he played his first T20 match for Tamil Nadu against Kerela in Chennai. Owing to his all-round performances in the TNPL 2017 and the Inter-State T20 Tournament, he got his maiden IPL contract of Rs 10 lakh with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2017. Although, he did not get to play a match in the entire season.

Tamil Nadu’s T20 Team was well stacked with plenty of spin-bowling all-rounders in their squad because of which Sanjay could get very few matches to play. Seeing this, Sanjay decided to start playing for Meghalaya’s cricket team. On 9 December 2019, Sanjay made a solid Ranji Trophy debut for Meghalaya in a match against Nagaland, in which he clinched 9 wickets and scored 61 runs. His bowling figures of 9 wickets for 52 runs were the third-best bowling figures by an Indian in first-class cricket history.

Sanjay ended his debut Ranji Trophy season, clinching 55 wickets and scoring 603 runs. These were the second-best all-round performance figures by any cricket player in the history of Ranji Trophy. Thereafter, he has played several tournaments for Meghalaya and showcased his talent with both the bat and the ball. Sanjay’s performances in the domestic cricket attracted Sunrisers Hyderabad’s attention, who later bought him for Rs 20 lakh in the IPL players’ auction ahead of IPL 2020.
